Coaches Code of Conduct
2007/2008
Your duty towards the game
- Coaches must respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every
person and treat each equally within the context of the sport.
- Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the laws of the game, behavior contrary to the spirit of the laws of the game, behavior contrary to the spirit of the game or relevant rules and regulations including racist or homophobic comments or the use of prohibited substances or techniques
Your duty towards the Club
- Coaches must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
- Coaches must consistently display high standards of behavior and appearance.
- Coaches will be responsible for the collection of match fees and their submission to the club Treasurer upon request.
Your duty towards one’s own team
- Coaches must place the well-being and safety of each player above
all other considerations, including the development of performance.
- Coaches must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.
- Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.
- Coaches must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behavior and performance.
- Coaches should, at the outset, clarify with the players (and, where appropriate, parents) exactly what is expected of them and also what they, as players, are entitled to expect from their coach.
Respect for the Laws of the Game and Competition Rules
1. Coaches must adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing
bodies.
- Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behavior contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or
techniques.
- Coaches will be responsible or the payment of any fine imposed upon them by the FA or Football League. Payment will be submitted to the Bookham Colts League Secretary upon request.
- The use of violent conduct, foul language and abusive language is strictly forbidden.
Respect towards Opponents
- Coaches must, at all times, show respect for the opposition and their supporters.
- Coaches should not to use or tolerate inappropriate language toward to opposition.
Respect towards the Match Officials
- Coaches must co-operate fully with match officials in the best interests of the player.
- Coaches must consistently display high standards of behavior and must, at all times, refrain from arguing with the Referee and Assistant Referees or Linesmen
- Coaches should not themselves use or tolerate inappropriate language from their players.
- Treat opponents with due respect at all times, irrespective of the result of the game.
Respect towards Team Officials
- Coaches must co-operate fully with other team and age group coaches within the club, in the best interests of the player.
Any proven breach of the Code of Conduct will be dealt with by the League Disciplinary Committee in accordance with the rules of the League.
